Lottery Pool Shares Prize With New Hire

P&GWhen Jennifer Maldonado was asked to contribute $20 to the lottery pool at her new job, she had yet to even collect her first paycheck and decided to pass. The following Monday morning when she showed up for work and everyone was celebrating she thought they were playing a practical joke on her because she had opted out.

The celebration was no joke; the office lottery pool matched five of six numbers on one of their tickets fora total winning of $1,000,000.00. Each of the 12 who were in the lottery pool will get approximately $83,000 and they have all agreed to generously give a portion to their new co-worker, Maldonado, even though she didn’t play. The group did not disclose exactly how much they are giving Maldonado, only saying that it’s more than $5,000.

Childhood Friend Honors Decades Old Promise

thumbnailWhen Kenneth Wilson, 59, won $1 million playing the Powerball lottery he didn’t think twice about honoring a promise he had made to his childhood best friend, James Scoles, and his cousin, Sanford Watson. Decades prior, the three had made a verbal pact to share any lottery winnings if one of them ever won.

Oddly enough, it was Scoles who had a prediction of Wilson’s big win. The same day Wilson purchased the winning ticket in Macon, Georgia, Scoles who lives in Alaska got a fortune cookie that said he would win the lottery. Wilson waited about a week to claim the prize so the three of them could be there to claim it together. “I was just as tickled for them as I was for myself,” Wilson told the press about sharing the prize.

A Game of Darts

Now after 40 years, the two have finally hit the jackpot. They won a total of £1.2 million in the national lottery.

Milne had purchased the tickets for that week and was so shocked when he discovered the big win that he couldn’t even drive to his friend’s house to share the news. His daughters gave him a ride over to McKay’s house so they could all celebrate. Both men have had birthdays recently turning 60 and 63 respectively, and were nearing retirement. They can now retire much more comfortably. McKay plans to upgrade his car and Milne hopes to take a long-awaited, “well-deserved holiday” with his wife.
