Garth currently works as a freelance light and sound technician. He says he has always dreamed of opening a live music venue in the area and now he can. Garth already has his eye on a few places near Teesside Park.

In addition to buying and opening a live music hall, Garth plans to pay off his parents’ and sister’s mortgages. He will also buy first class tickets for all of his family members to take a trip to Australia to visit his aunt.

Last Wednesday, Maria Juana P. Tolentino, of North Carolina received a late Christmas present from her brother. The gift was a $5 Mega Bucks Scratch-Off ticket. The whole family happened to be gathered in the living room when she scratched the lucky ticket. At first, Maria thought she had won $100 and was very excited about that. When she discovered it was actually $100,000 she could barely believe it.

After taxes, Maria’s prize totals $68,001, no small Christmas present. According to lottery officials, she plans to use the money on some home renovations, buy some things for her children and give some of it to her brother who bought her the lucky ticket.

Sylvia Santos, a young woman from Winnipeg, Canada has recently become the city’s latest millionaire.  On December 8th, she decided to buy a Player’s Choice Mega Pack of scratch off tickets at a Safeway store but almost put them back because she thought she was $2 short. Lucky for her, Sylvia found an extra $2 in her purse and bought the tickets.

It wasn’t until the following day that Sylvia scratched the tickets. She uncovered three identical Western Millions $1 million prize amounts on one of the tickets but she wasn’t sure if she had actually won. Sylvia brought the ticket to her parents to see what they thought. Her mother thought the symbols had to be in a row for a winner but her dad insisted it was a winner.

The ticket was in fact a $1 million winner.

Scott Bennett is New Hampshire’s newest Tri-State Megabucks winner and it’s all thanks to a gas station clerk’s mistake. Bennett told the clerk he wanted a Lucky For Life ticket and a Tri-State Megabucks Plus ticket but was handed two Tri-State Megabucks tickets instead.

Bennett never got the Lucky for Life ticket he had requested but it turns out he didn’t need it. One of the tickets he did get was the $2.1 million Tri-State Megabucks jackpot winning ticket. Bennett chose the lump sum option which nets approximately $1.3 million before taxes.

The win came at a great time for the Bennett family, just before Christmas. They were able to make the holiday just a little bit merrier by adding a few more presents under the tree. After the holidays, they plan to renovate the kitchen of the Victorian home they purchased last year as well as pay off some of their childrens’ college loans.

A survivor of Typhoon Ketsana who has chosen not to release her name to the public was one of the three winners of the P30 million lotto jackpot in the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes on December 19, 2012. Typhoon Ketsana struck the Philippines in September of 2009 and was recorded as the most devastating storm to ever hit Manila. The storm resulted in 747 deaths and damages of $1.09 billion in the northern and central areas of Luzon.

The winner and her family members have been living in an evacuation center in Pampanga since their home was destroyed in 2009. She plans to use her winnings to buy a house and lot, donate a portion to her Church, and save some of it for her only son’s future.

The numbers she played were 14-22-17-10-06-26, the same ones she’s been playing for several years.

Nebraskan Couple Quadruples Prize Winnings

Gerald and Robin Ritter of Fremont, Nebraska quadrupled their $250,000 prize winnings to $1 million by playing the Nebraska Mega Millions with Megaplier.

The couple’s quick pick ticket matched all 5 winning numbers (6, 10, 24, 26, 42) for a $250,000 prize. Because Ritter had added the $1 Megaplier option to his purchase, his win was multiplied by 4 for a total of $1 million. The Match 5 prize is guaranteed to always draw the 4X multiplier, turning a $250,000 prize into a $1 million prize.

Ritter had added the Megaplier feature because of encouragement from his wife, Robin. “I always buy Megaplier tickets, and I told him he should too, because it increases your prizes,” she said.

This is the third $1 million Mega Millions prize won in Nebraska since the Nebraska Lottery began offering the game on March 20, 2010.

Filling out a Lottery ticketThink twice before you toss those forgotten lotto tickets out. Luckily Ron Yurcus did before tossing out the one million-dollar Powerball lottery ticket, which he purchased two months prior.

Ron Yurcus, an avid lottery player, was making room for his new computer when he stumbled across the million-dollar miracle. He had about twelve old lottery tickets piled up on his desk, Yurcus said in a statement by the Illinois Lottery, “I checked the numbers on the Illinois Lottery website and realized I won $1 million in the August 22 drawing. As soon as my wife came home I asked her to double check the ticket.”

Asked what he is going to do with the unexpected windfall, Yurcus said he plans to travel and spread the wealth through various charities. Yurcus said in a statement, “I want to travel to Lithuania. My grandparents came from there and I’ve always wanted to go.”

Do You Believe In Karma?

Chicago man John Turner traveled down to New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy to lend a hand. Turner, who runs a local water removal business, lent his services to distressed owners of flooded homes.

After a long day of work cleaning up in New Jersey, Turner tried his luck on a Championship Poker scratch ticket. Call it luck or karma, but that ticket won him $100,000. Turner said, “I showed the card to my buddies, and we all couldn’t believe it, I was overjoyed and had tears in my eyes. I’m still just trying to take it all in.” His employee Joshua Rivera added, “He wanted a lot of confirmation from us, and just called a lot of family and told everybody the good news.”

Turner plans to invest a portion of the winnings in his business, while donating the rest. “He deserves it. He’s a good-hearted man. I couldn’t think of anybody better to win it than John,” said Rivera.

£63.8m EuroMillions Lottery Ticket Remains Unclaimed

Time is running out for the UK winner of the June 8 EuroMillions draw. According to lottery rules, the winner has a 180-day deadline to pick up the prize. The £63,837,543.60 winning ticket will expire at 11pm on December 5.

The winning ticket was purchased in Hertfordshire in the Stevenage and Hitchin area with the winning numbers 5, 11, 22, 34, 40 and Lucky Stars 9 and 11.

There has been a huge publicity campaign to find the missing lottery winner. There will be advertising vans displaying important information touring Stevenage and Hitchin this week, and retailers will be displaying posters up until the last minute to remind their lottery-playing customers to check their tickets.

A spokesman for the National Lottery spokesman stated, “Our message is simple – we’re urging everyone to look one last time everywhere a missing ticket could be hiding. The ticket-holder now only has until 11pm on December 5 to come forward and claim this huge prize.”

If nobody claims the prize before the deadline, the money will go to the National Lottery Good Causes.

Record-Breaking Powerball

5

Are you the lucky winner of the record-breaking Powerball jackpot? If you bought your ticket from Arizona or Missouri, it could be you.

Americans went on a ticket buying spree earlier this week to see if they could take a bite at the jackpot. At one point tickets were selling at a rate of 130,000 per minute nationwide. The Powerball frenzy concluded Thursday morning when lottery officials confirmed there were two winning tickets.

The jackpot had rolled over 16 times without a winner, which ballooned the jackpot to a record breaking amount of $579.9 million. The previous record Powerball jackpot was $365 million back in 2006, which was shared by several coworkers from ConAgra Foods in Lincoln, Nebraska. Although the Powerball jackpot is huge, it is not the biggest lottery prize ever. That title goes to the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot earlier this year.

In addition to the two lucky jackpot winners, Powerball officials said there were eight people who won $2 million and 58 people who won $1 million. The ticket holders have 180 days to claim their prize.
